It's the night before the start of the 1932 World Series between the Chattanooga Chasers and the New York Yankees. The Chasers are on a train bound for New York, but the mood is far from the celebration one might expect. Team owner Homer Doubleday is considering ordering the benching of his team's star player, Moose Macker. It seems that Moose has a clause in his contract that will pay him $10,000 if the Chasers win the World Series. With Moose, the Chasers are a lock to topple the Yankees. Without him, the team is doomed. Also on the train is the team's accountant, Jackie Bean, who seems to be nervous about something. Also accompanying the team on its trek to the Big Apple is sportswriter Max Banner and Det.Perry Ville, Moose's personal bodyguard.
